The Mississippi Library Commission offers several services to Mississippi’s state employees, including access to databases, specialized research assistance, and access to books and other materials found at MLC and at other libraries through interlibrary loan. To apply for a state employee card, fill out the application for state employees here and email it to abrower@mlc.lib.ms.us or mlcref@mlc.lib.ms.us.

Database Access

Remote access with an MLC account is available for several databases, including Creativebug, HeritageQuest, NoveList Plus, and Sanborn Maps. Click here for more information or contact the Reference Desk at 601-432-4492. Database lists will be sent to all new and registered patrons.

E-books and E-audiobooks

Hoopla: MLC cardholders have access to three audio or e-book downloads each month. Hoopla can be accessed via the Hoopla app on your phone or tablet or on your desktop. You will need your MLC library card to register.

Research Services

Our talented reference staff can provide information from MLC’s primary resource library, including state documents and our Mississippi collection, and provide information from databases like Ancestry Library Edition, AtoZ Databases, Lexis+, newspapers.com, and more. Most queries are answered within 24 hours.

Books & Materials

MLC’s primary resource collection includes reference, fiction, nonfiction, audiovisual, and Mississippi materials. Circulating items can be handmailed directly to your office. Non-circulating items can be used in MLC, or our reference staff can search or copy the material for you. Looking for a book that MLC doesn’t have? We can borrow it from another library at no cost to you through our interlibary loan (ILL) service. We can handmail ILL materials to your office, or you can come by MLC–you can come to our reference desk on the second floor, or use our curbside service.

If you have any questions, please contact Alex Brower, Information Services Director, at abrower@mlc.lib.ms.us or 601-432-4117.
