Partnerships and Community Engagement
Partners can range in size and influence. Some partners may simply attend club meetings or make social media posts about the 3D printer. Other partners may take a more active role by leading programs, volunteering to run the printer during some library hours, providing snacks for the program attendees, or by purchasing additional filament for special projects. Big or small, these partnerships help to strengthen bonds in the community.
- Public libraries wishing to borrow these printers will need to commit to having at least one community partner. We strongly suggest that this partner come from a local public school, but we also know that many other partnerships can be equally valuable.
- Public schools wishing to borrow these printers must commit to partnering with a local public library. They can have additional partners, as well, but the local public library must be involved in some way.
Checkout Periods
You will be able to check the printers out for one of two different purposes: Demonstration (4-week checkout period) or Programming (8-week checkout period).
Read below for details about each checkout period.
Demonstration
Libraries borrowing out the 3D printer for demonstration purposes will get the following:
- Check-out period of 4 (four) weeks
- The 3D printer and 2 rolls of PLA filament
- An SD card stocked with sample prints
- Links to easily-printed 3D objects on the Internet
- Sample 3D printer policies for your library to adopt while using the printer
Programming
Libraries borrowing the 3D printer for programming purposes will get the following:
- Check-out period of 8 (eight) weeks.
- The 3D printer and 2 rolls of PLA filament
- An SD card stocked with sample prints
- Links to easily-printed 3D objects on the Internet
- Curriculum for programming (including program ideas and printing projects for the public)
- Information about free 3D printing and print building software
- Sample 3D printer policies for your library to adopt while using the printer
